Course Outline
Subject objectives
Students with 156 hours of formal Korean instruction or equivalent will acquire communication skills which are needed to handle various daily life situations and professional issues, such as discussions on social topics of interest, formal essay writing and research paper presentation. Students will also expand their knowledge of Korean history and culture through readings and discussions.
Intended
learning outcomes
Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to:

talk about political, economic, social and cultural issues more fluently;

distinguish between the usage of spoken and written language in both formal and informal contexts;

express opinions in an organized manner and refute other’s argument politely;

discuss current issues learned from audio-visual media and newspapers/periodicals, with a skillful use of terms and expressions of current events;

make daily conversation flexibly and engage in business activities more skillfully;

understand the Korean corporate and social intercourse culture and be capable to use Korean to solve the basic problems in work; and

express abstract ideas and opinions in Korean.
